Lori Stewart is a Lecturer in the Religious Studies Department at San Diego State University where she teaches World Religions, Religion & Psychology, and Goddess Studies, and is currently developing a course in Nature, Spirit, and Ecology. Professor Stewart also teaches Buddhism classes at Prana Yoga Center in La Jolla, CA, and is presently under contract with Cognella Academic Publishing to author a World Religions text scheduled for publication in 2018. Professor Stewart is an ordained minister (Cheraga) and teacher (Khalifah) in the Sufi Movement International, and a Level-One Reiki practitioner with 10 years of experience. Prior to her employment at SDSU, Professor Stewart worked as a Board Certified Chaplain at Visiting Nurses & Hospice/Coming Home Hospice of San Francisco, the St. Francis Hospital Burn Unit in San Francisco, and San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care. Professor Stewart holds degrees in Technical Medicine (A.S.), American Sign Language & Deaf Studies (A.A.), Human Development (B.A.), and Theology (M.A.), with post-graduate certification in Clinical Pastoral Education and Interfaith Studies. Professor Stewart has trained in the martial art of Aikido for 15 years under the tutelage of Shihans Ichiro Shibata, Morihiko Murashige, and T.K. Chiba respectively. She currently holds the rank of Sandan (3rd degree black belt), and has been a Certified Instructor (Fukushidoin) for 7 years.
